Know The Rules Before Setting Off Fireworks

If you're planning to set off some fireworks for the 4th of July, build some common sense and safety into those plans.

That from Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services spokesperson Erin Gillespie.

She says we've had plenty of rain, but there is always the risk of a spent firework falling into a dry patch and starting either a brush or a structure fire.

Before you set off those fireworks, make sure you know that you're following the law.

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel says anything that explodes or goes airborne is illegal, but there is a loophole.

You can purchase them though if you intend to use them for a large event like a public celebration.

Israel says they follow up on those affidavits and they could pursue charges if the paperwork is false, but will likely just seize the fireworks.
